What this machine physically cannot do
This is a CO2 laser at 10.6 µm, the wavelength organic materials absorb best. It cuts clear cast acrylic to a flame-polished edge, which no diode can do at any power, and it handles wood, leather, card, fabric and rubber faster and more cleanly than a diode of similar nominal wattage.
It cannot mark bare metal without a coating spray such as CerMark — for bare steel or aluminium you want a fiber laser. It also must not be pointed at PVC, vinyl or anything chlorine-bearing: the gas produced corrodes the mirrors, rails and electronics, and is dangerous to breathe.
The trade-off against a diode is maintenance. A CO2 machine has mirrors that need alignment, a tube that is a consumable with a finite life, and usually a water cooling loop to look after.
What fits, and what it is like to live with
The bed is 600 × 400 mm. In practice that means it takes a 600 × 400 mm hobby sheet flat, and you can nest roughly 24 100 mm coaster blanks in a single run before you have to reload.
The workshop standard. This is the class most small production shops settle on: 5–6 mm acrylic and plywood in one pass, fast engraving, and enough life in the tube to run daily. If you are buying one machine to do everything, it is almost always this one.
OMTech / Gweike 60W FAQ
How fast does the OMTech / Gweike 60W cut 3 mm plywood?
About 15 mm/s. Cutting a 100 × 60 mm part (320 mm of cut) takes roughly 21 s of machine time on the OMTech / Gweike 60W.
Can the OMTech / Gweike 60W cut clear acrylic?
Yes. The OMTech / Gweike 60W is a CO2 laser (10,600 nm) and cuts both clear and opaque acrylic, plus plywood, MDF, leather, card and fabric.
What is the OMTech / Gweike 60W bed size?
The OMTech / Gweike 60W has a 600 × 400 mm work area (23.6 × 15.7 inches). That is the largest part it can cut in one pass without repositioning the material.
How much does it cost to run the OMTech / Gweike 60W?
Laser cutting is priced by machine time: cut length ÷ cutting speed × passes = time, then time × hourly rate + setup. At €60/h a 100 × 60 mm plywood part costs about €0.36. Use the calculator to price your own file.
How much does the OMTech / Gweike 60W cost?
~€3,000–5,000 as of August 2026, for the machine alone. Budget extra for extraction, a decent air assist and material. Street prices move, so treat this as a starting point and check the seller before you quote work on it. Full reasoning in our small-business laser buying guide.
